DIVINE FEMININE

December 8th, 2021 - January 28th, 2022

Mixed media artist Calypso Bené specialises in oil paint to create artwork that dialogues between realistic and abstract depictions of human anatomy. Using her art, Calypso invites the viewer to delve into the concepts of identity and the socialised perceptions associated with existing in corporeal form.

'Divine Feminine' by Calypso Bené is an exploration into how societal constructs mould and dictate our perception of the female form. The works will challenge the viewer to question the authenticity of their perceptions and open their mind to see the world with new eyes.

The collection of work presented in the Lauderdale gallery is heavily focused around feminine energy as Calypso endeavours to pursue the desexualisation of female nudity within society via her art.

Calypso’s motive is to facilitate conversation and invite people to question the authenticity of their motives within the context of the nature vs nurture debate and to understand that human behaviour is subject to their surroundings.
