KATASHA ROSE

FREEDOM

November 4th, 2021 - December 4th, 2021

Katasha Rose is an up-and-coming artist of Jamaican descent and graduate of University of the Arts London. The influence of her early life in the emerald hills of Jamaica can be seen echoed in the organic shapes and relaxed spirit of her work. As a child, inspiration for artwork was derived from the pages of a treasured encyclopaedia; a gift from the matriarch of her family.

After abandoning her dream of becoming a professional artist to pursue a more traditionally lucrative career, Rose's perspective on life was altered by the pandemic and she rediscovered her passion for creating art, setting a goal to compose one new piece per month for 12 months. This work became the foundation for her first solo exhibition 'Becoming', which premiered in June 2021.

Rose's most recent work which will debuted in a solo exhibition, entitled 'Freedom' at The Lauderdale Gallery in November 2021, explored more abstract themes, with 8 original pieces produced in vibrant acrylic, showing a more expressive and uninhibited side to her art.

CASCADE

Cascade is representation in abstract form of the emotional battle between negative and positive thoughts. Thick sections of dark acrylic paint are partially concealed with swipes of white and gold, to create an end result that is as layered as the inner workings of the human mind it was inspired by.

IN THE PURPLE

In The Purple captures the transient nature of dreams. The artist aims to express the surreal and intangible

thoughts that the brain creates whilst in repose and how those imaginings cannot be translated to the waking world and are often forgotten once sleep ceases.

THE DEEP BLUE
Deep_Blue.jpg

A piece which examines how proximity to water can stimulate human imagination and create a feeling of freedom. The combination of the colour palette which ranges from azure to deep indigo and the textured surface of the piece created by the unexpected addition of builders plaster, combine to give a result which is reminiscent of the soothing and rhythmic movement of the sea.
