CHARLIE HAYDN TAYLOR
WITHIN THESE WALLS
May 19th, 2022 - June 23rd, 2022
Since graduating from Goldsmiths University in 2018, Charlie Haydn Taylor has exhibited internationally, building a presence in cities such as London, Singapore and Florence. A Jersey native, he has also begun to establish himself as a key figure in the Channel Islands growing contemporary art scene.
Haydn Taylor's work sits in private collections across the world alongside pieces by art titans Jean-Michel Basquiat, Andy Warhol and Keith Haring. Visually, his work is interdisciplinary, graphic and multi-layered, in both its physicality and conceptuality, urging the viewer to take time to comprehend the fine details included in the imagery and intention behind the composition of each piece.
The combination of paint and digitally designed, printed elements allows Haydn Taylor to juxtapose traditional media against modern methods to create an end result that bridges the boundary between physical and digital worlds.
Drawing inspiration from minimal, modern interior settings and creating his own quasi-graphic environments, Haydn Taylor’s work delves into notions of philosophical reasoning and human psychology whilst simultaneously addressing ideas of consumerism. By depicting common domestic settings, the artist highlights the intimacy of our homes, focusing predominantly on existential thought with ideas forming around how we behave away from the eyes of others and how private and public personas can differentiate.
